growing pains byCheryl3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Can a two year old have growing pains? My son was restless and crying and kicking his legs last night- it seemed like he couldn't get comfortable. When I started to massage his calf he calmed down and fell asleep. If it is growing pains, what can I do to alleviate his pain.
Sun Exposure byHorsehair2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Now that it is summer, I am concerned about my children's exposure to the sun. When I was a kid we were out all day, often without hats, shirts and sunscreen. Aside from a few freckles, my skin seems to be ok. Today, there is a notion out there advising parents to keep kids completely out of the sun, or slather them with sunscreen. Is there a happy medium? What are the real concerns, and recommendations for healthy outdoor playtime?
Food Allergies byHorsehair1 month ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Is there any way to prevent my 8 month old son from developing food allergies, or is it completely hereditary? Nobody in our immediate family is allergic to anything, but I have a friend who has a child that seems to be allergic to everything from chocolate to nuts. I'd hate to have my boy develop a peanut or shellfish allergy (or any for that matter). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had advice from an ND to hold off on introducing foods that they could be allergic to until after their 1st b-day- I did not give my son dairy or wheat or nuts till well after his 1st b-day and he has no known food allergies- I'm not a Dr. so I can't say this will work for sure but it seems to have curbed allergies in our family.
Cuts and scrapes byHorsehair1 month ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Our 5 year old daughter is just learning to ride her bike and I was wondering about injury treatment, because I can see that there is a distinct possibility of a scraped knee or two. At what point does a kid need stitches if they have a bad cut? What if it looks deep, but isn't bleeding? Are there any infections in particular that a person should worry about related to bad cuts or scrapes? Are band-aids ok? I've heard that you should let wounds "breathe". Does rubbing vitamin E on a healing wound really help reduce scarring?
